It wasn't trying to copy WWF at all. 92-94ish saw some exciting younger (or newer to the promotion) talents get pushed like Steve Austin, Brian Pillman, Ron Simmons, Cactus Jack, Vader, and Harlem Heat.
WCW started to really push for a more northeastern style, rather than southern, in 94 when they brought in Hogan and Savage.
There was still good storytelling and great matches in WCW after that, but the main event scene became more and more of a shit show and Bischoff focused like 90% of the show on the main event scene, which first was all about Hogan and then all about nWo/Sting/Goldberg.
WCW didn't turn to complete shit until 99 but it did feel like it was no longer southern rasslin' and instead WWF South division by around 95 or so
