Spent the past 3 hours playing this. Here are my thoughts that nobody cares about.

Going into it, I wanted an updated version of no mercy. Not that much to ask for.

>controls feel good, gameplay is very similar and it feels like that casual n64 style compared to WWE games
>graphics are pretty bad, but the art style is consistent - it looks okay in motion
>character expressions are laughable and borderline demonic
>good variety of match types, haven't played all of them but singles + tag feel decent
>AI is extremely buggy at times, gets stuck outside of the ring and slowly walks against the corner getting counted out. manually had to throw opponent into the ring just to keep playing multiple times.
>roster is decent but outdated
>entrances are super short, the camera angles/pyro buttons are unnecessary
>some wrestlers entrance music is outdated or generic (probably licensing issues)
>CAW is awful. This is probably my biggest complaint
>Mini games I played were pretty bad, baseball one is decent. I don't have access to them all, not sure if they are DLC but there are some I couldn't access.
>Career mode might be good, too early to tell. Seems like it might have good replay value for branching paths, but no idea how diverse it can get.
>No dig diggity dog. Music is all over the place. If this thing gets proper mod support on PC that would be the first thing I would change.

I would have given No Mercy a 10/10 for it's time, while this falls closer to a 6/10 on a modern scale despite being so close to the same. I don't enjoy the modern WWE 2k games, and I think in a year's time (unless this receives major updates) I'll still just go back and play No Mercy to scratch that old school itch.

No Mercy had a hugely varied and extensive branching career mode, a tonne of moves per wrestler and fully customizable movesets, as well as graphics that were pretty standard for the time. Does fight forever have any of these?

I like the look of the game, but this. Iron Man, cage, table, tag elimination, tag ladder, and even trios should be in as standard. Standard. And yeah, yeah, they might add them, but it's gonna hurt sales at launch.

Not sure how extensive career mode is. The wrestler movesets feel unique to the wrestlers, mostly striking animation and signature/finishers. Creation feels extremely limited but the characters I've played all feel unique from one another. Admittedly I haven't bothered to make a CAW after looking through what's available. Maybe I'm missing something.

I definitely wouldn't recommend this game @ $60 USD unless someone was really a huge fan of the old N64 games. It's a decent attempt at revisiting that type of game, but the lack of polish and buggy AI makes me wish I waited to grab this at $40 or under.

Got old for me after a day, story mode was a huge disappointment and super short and barely anything changes if you win or lose besides sparse bits of dialogue. Casino Royal is torture and tag matches never end.

Game doesn't seem able to run more than 4 wrestlers at once. If you eliminate someone they don't even walk to the back, just disappear so the next guy can appear. If two people get eliminated at once it tends to bug out like crazy.

Unfortunate about story mode not delivering. I enjoyed what I saw of it so far.

Tag matches I actually enjoy. Every ending to a tag match always felt "natural" to me as opposed to like No Mercy where you're just hoping your AI partner actually prevents the AI's partner from breaking up a pin attempt.

The concept of the game even having minigames, or even worse, SELLING MORE OF THEM, is the issue. It would be one thing if it was something relevant but we're talking "sloth sling" as a selling point here.
Also we both know they aren't adding any match types let alone any free content if they are selling racing minigames.

It could have been actually fun if they'd replaced the mini games with like a scaffold match or some gang beasts type party mode where you have to chuck each other off buildings. Something that uses the core gameplay to do something quick and dumb but entertaining.

Worse than that even. Wrestling game graphics are usually a gen behind as standard. Fight Forever looks like a last-gen wrestling game which means it looks like a PS3 game by non-wrestling standards.

You could forgive the graphics if they were compromised to accommodate better performance or more detailed gameplay, phyiscs, more characters on screen etc. But none of those are true. Characters are limited to 4, physics are non-existent, the graphics are weak and outdated, and yet it still runs at sub-30 fps on Switch. It's just nowhere close to good enough to charge money for.

It annoys me that people will buy this game regardless because it sends the message that producing this level of shit and charging full price for it is OK. It absolutely needs to flop, not because I have anything against AEW, but because what incentive do developers have to put any real effort into producing good quality games if people will pay top dollar for garbage like this?
