Meltzer is both right and wrong here. He’s right in saying that Hogan didn’t create the 80’s boom period alone. The WWF had a lot of great talent at that time. However, meltz is also wrong because he’s just trying to shit on the hulkster and diminish his successes. The fact remains that Hogan’s popularity was the single biggest factor that created said boom period, even if he didn’t do it alone.

Hogan drew 33 million viewers on a Saturday night primetime show without Mr T or Cyndi Lauper.
He literally had his own cartoon show, action figures, lunchboxes, breakfast cereals, bedsheets, and pajama sets in the same vein as a super hero like Batman or Superman. He was on the covers of magazines. He was on every single daytime or late night talk show multiple times.
Hogan was legit one of the 10-15 most recognizable and famous people in America at his peak, and he is still the embodiment of what people think of when you say "pro wrestler" to the average person.

Cyndi Lauper and Mr. T get the name out there but people ain't gonna give a fuck unless they actually care about the wrestling. It's not like now. Wrestling was actually a draw. Yes the celebrities helped and Hogan obviously didn't do everything himself. But he deserves a majority of the credit, probably around 80 percent at least.
