The greatest contribution dogs have to humanity involve chasing down other predators while farming. That said, they are no different from cats in this capacity who chase away/eat small pests. The difference is a cat won’t kill another person.
Civilization still happens without the dog. Pigs are unironically superior to dogs as pets. Civilization never takes off without the horse.
The Horse is man’s actual best friend.
Dogs has the highest kill count on man out of any other domesticated species of animal and 3rd highest kill count on man out of all animals behind Mosquitoes and Snakes.
