It's blatantly unfinished. Realistically it looks like it would've needed about another year of development, which is fucking unbelievable for a game that they worked on for 4 years and re-used assets for.
Gameplay's fun though and really the only saving grace, albeit even that's janky and needs some polishing, but it's solid. Everything else about it from the career to the minigames to the barely existent CAW to the ugly artstyle seem like the result of going through pure development hell.

What's funny is AKI wanted to get back into wrestling games for years but nobody even wanted to talk to them, think it was in an otherwise unrelated interview for one of those games the guy said they'd be sending out feelers to TNA and NJPW and NOAH and every fed they could think of but nobody gave a shit. That they struck gold making shovelware dress-up games and never looked back is kind of based.

I always thought it was because AKI/syn Sophia charged a lot to develop a new game because they knew the engine was sought after so much. Not that either of the companies couldn't afford it, but I thought I read that somewhere, but I'm probably mistaken.

That could be true also, the two publishers that did get them afterwards were EA (Def Jam) and Bandai (Ultimate Muscle) who had plenty of money. It seems to me that the engine was sought after more by fans than companies though, as if they really wanted it they could afford it, as you said. They couldn't have cost that much when they were working on bullshit like Ready 2 Rumble Revolution on Wii.

Atari published R2RR in 09 and a year before they were in some buyout offer drama with their parent company. So it's possible atari being a know name and possibly getting a big sum made them be able to afford it. Not sure, but it's really just a mystery why syn Sophia has never developed a wrestling game since, or why companies won't get them, I should say.

A game that had stripped down graphics & went back to the 'olden days' makes you wonder where all the time & money went?

This game should've been chocked full of match types, customization, & be a smooth experience. Yet it's barebones & unfinished after 2.5 years.

Shitty out of date roster? Key wrestlers missing, no cage matches? This should've had everyone including the dark no-names, with full arena in-fighting, war games and all sorts.

Inexcusable.

Story mode still sucks, can't find a match online, movesets are small, no match commentary, looks like shit, buggy, weapons suck, match types get old, tag lasts too long, 1v1 is often over in 2mins. Wtf am I supposed to do? Even if I get friends over they only want to play a match or two, so that's ten minutes.
