Watch the clip. You can see the other side of the ladder raise up a bit when Sting jumps. Darby and the ref held the part of the ladder that doesn't raise up. Meaning that Darby and the ref essentially did nothing

When Sting jumps he pushes the ladder backwards. If they securely hold the side that Sting if jumping from then it won't be pushed backwards and Sting has a firm base when he jumps. If they hold the other side of the folding ladder there's nothing stopping the ladder from being pushed back.

Objects like folding ladders and folding chairs typically have braces that lock in to position. You wouldn't want to bet your ass that the little brace is going to do its job when you jump off the ladder but it's not nothing.
