Sony put out the front that it was about losing exclusives etc, when the court documents themselves show that the head of Playstation knows that most of the franchise will keep appearing on Playstation for the forseeable future. They play here is bigger. It isn't about "exclusives'. Its about eliminating consoles entirely. Microsoft admitted they lost the console wars. It knows it can't win those. But it also knows that they dont matter anymore. Nintendo has shown that an outdated box can be more profitable to produce and sell than R&D research on "the next thing". What Microsoft wants to do is go purely digital. it wants games to be a service. An app on your TV, phone computer like Netflix, that you download and subscribe to. The games running off of servers, and MS making bank off of licensing and subscriptions. In short Gamepass isn't a service to Microsoft and Spence, IT IS the next Xbox. There is no way for Sony to compete with that. It is also why the Brits version of the FTC blocked the deal. Because when you couple MS footprint in the world of servers, streaming, and online infrastructure, services Sony even uses like Azure, with this much content it means they win. Game is over.
