I watched a 1999 WWF PPV recently and it fucking sucked, too. A Triple H vs. Vince McMahon main event. I honestly don't want to go back anymore. This has been a great mistake.

'98 is good, but the slide sets in after Summerslam.
When I did a marathon run through the attitude era in 4 months, I quit watching when Steve Austin went out in '99. Didn't wanna see SmackDown or the rest of the era.
The writing had become so silly and stupid that I felt silly and stupid and couldn't enjoy it anymore.

I really liked CM Punk and Christian in 2011. Also liked Bryan in 2013. I don’t know how smart it would be to rewatch any of it. Certain parts of 2008-2015 WWE feel cursed. Cena particularly stood out to me. He threatened to sue HHH if he didn’t give him his rematch clause. He did a lot of weird shit for a face to do, imo.
