Ratings were already on the decline before Austin or Rock even left, and that decline did not accelerate under HHH, who was largely a transitional star as they worked to pass things off to Brock, and then a scramble towards Cena. Super Cena and PG did more damage to wrestling as a whole than HHH larping as Ric Flair ever did. You can disagree if you like, you're wrong all the time and this won't be any different, but the fact is I'm right and you're wrong.

Booker T had nothing going for him to be a champion at that time, he was in a tag team with a flaming fag which is goldust and that was it, no storyline going for him it would've just been a feel good moment for mere seconds and it would've fizzled out.

This is one of the things that doesn’t get mentioned enough. Paul’s face run was worse than his reign of terror. He doesn’t have a likeable fibre in his body and tried doing Le underdog stuff it was so bad. Came back and buried Booker (again) buried Orton (again) and hogged the main event scene

This wasn't prime Cena. 2008 was a really weird year for him. He came back at the Rumble, won it, used the win to challenge Orton at No Way Out instead, won by DQ, at the pin in the WrestleMania Triple Threat after a single Pedigree and after laying there for like 10 seconds even though Paul got Punted and should've taken the pin, then feuded with JBL, then came the HHH loss, then he lost to Batista and broke his neck.
It's like they were making him pay his dues or something after he was unbeatable from 05-07.

Ratings went back up again around 04 and part of that is the dissapointment over the AE ending faded AND people had enough time to hear about how good Smackdown had gotten while hunter was sitting on the RAW throne shitting everything up while his baggage handlers were groomed to turn into "Stars" by turning on him. Its why ratings went back down when Brock left Eddie/Benoit died and RVD was chased out of the company leading to the PG era. Theres always a turnover time where word has to get out there on how good/bad things are similar to how the AE was biggest in 99-2K but the best stuff was in 97-98
