Any anons who have gone to wrestling shows for a long time: please tell me whether my memory is for shit.
I went to my first show (AEW) recently in over 20 years and what drew my attention immediately was how heavily the mat seems to be micced. As some people know, this makes bumps seem more impactful by piping the impact noise into the venue PA. It isn't something that makes it into the TV mix. Supposedly it makes women's and cruiserweight matches less boring too since their bodies don't make as large a noise when they fall down.
I don't remember WWE/WWF having even small impacts like a not-so-heavy stomp or hand slapping the mat boom over the PA like AEW seems to. I admit it does sound pretty good on big bumps, but otherwise it makes the in-ring action seem faker.
Am I imagining things or has it always been this way? Pic unrelated.
