It was ahead of its time, the execution was wonky, but mostly wrestling already had cage matches. This wasn’t really any different than a plain steel cage. Why make this special when they could just do a regular cage match? Shamrock should’ve been given the submission match or a Pancrase inspired match, it would’ve stood out more. This was just try-hard and unnecessary.

shamrock was anti-charisma and took his character too seriously. yes he jobbed and wasnt a self mark, but he never tried to be interesting, he was a one note bad ass which wasnt enough in the early days of the attitude era.

I think the issue was that he was ok as an enforcer for the corporation, but as soon as russo tried to get him into an incest angle he just checked out. like legit just let vince talk for him and have him murder jobbers in the ring.
