I disagree with Russo on the amount of credit he takes for WWF in the late 90s. They had a ton of star power and a lot of guys just given freedom to do what they want. Russo gave us good storylines and gimmicks occasionally, but also plenty of cringe. It didn't matter because they had STARS. But Russo is right on this point.
Wrestling today has almost no cultural relevance. It wasn't just the attitude era btw. Wrestling in the 80s and earlier 90s was still far, FAR more relevant than it is today. Pic rel was a spectacle that drew massive ratings in the 80s. People still remember Hogan and Andre and Savage. Roman is practically unknown.
