There really isn't anything left for him to do in AEW at this point, he's been world champion, had a top tier tag reign, and wrestled everyone who could get on his level. WWE is realistically his next stop since Vince has been trying to bag him for years and we already know Kenny talked with them sometime around May or June. I doubt he'll retire there though, Japan is the only place for that kind of occasion.

The last update we had was effectively "Tony is increasing his efforts to get him to sign a new deal before his current one lapses" we likely won't hear anything until closer to the time when TK starts reaching for his "big offers" to avoid the free agent period. Or he goes free and we start hearing about WWE's offers.

Plus letting Cody go to WWE is the single worst mistake TK has made thus far (depending on how Punk goes), losing Kenny would be even more obviously bad.

He's got tons of fresh opponents that have different styles that he could work programmes with. And the first half of his first title reign was characterised by protecting potential matchups, he doesn't really need to do that anymore now the pool is deeper. In AEW he can literally face anyone in the world. There's a handful of dream matches for him there but it's not remotely close to outside of it.
Guys like Gunther and Ilja would be pretty based but there's other guys like them on the outside and most of the major names there now are washed and not worth it.

Supposedly back in 2019 Kenny and The Bucks were offered "six month contracts" by WWE that would've allowed them to go back to Japan via an opt-out clause if they hated the WWE experience
