Wrestling used to be more of an outsider profession unlike today where it's more seemed as a showbusiness profession. Back in those days you were a wrestler because you fitted in the role of a wrestler, you were supposed to be mean, tough and crazy because your job was to be mean, tough and crazy. Today everyone knows wrestling is fake and everyone sees it more as form of entertainment, so it obviously attracts people who want to be wrestlers (or performers) so now you have a pool of talent that want to be wrestlers because that's their dream in contrast with the old days were the talent were wrestlers because that's the only thing they could do well.

Now anyone can become a wrestler and a lot of this generations wrestlers are marks who have never been in a real fight and played videogames and obsessed over wrestling when they were kids. Back then you had bodybuilders, former athletes and such being hired.

Haku and Harley are the biggest overblown tough guys in the carny businesses that it's wrestling. They were tough, yes. But they never could expose how tough they truly were because that would mean they had to expose the business as fake fighting so they instead told stories about how Haku could beat 16 marines at the same time while being drunk and sick from the flu. Then you have legit tough guys like Kurt Angle, Ken Shamrock, Steve Blackman, Bad News Brown who's stories are way more grounded and who have actual fighting records to back up their toughness.
