>>10995882I genuinely find that most non-fans like New Japan the most. I think they appreciate that it tries to take itself a bit more serious than American wrestling and it doesn't have a bunch of wink-wink nudge-nudge "we all know this is fake so who cares?" moments. AEW honestly missed the boat on capturing this segment of the audience, now they're just bad NXT Black and Gold.
From my own personal experience
WWE ends up being something where we both laugh at the bullshit but also the non-fans pop on queue for the big spots and memorable moments, also the easiest thing to relate to lapsed/non-fans with
AEW is way too fast paced for them and nothing really registers. I end up spending most of an AEW show explaining who people are, why they are fighting etc.
NJPW is a mixed bag, big shows and the G1/BOSJ are some of the best times I've had watching wrestling with friends, at the same time I've had complete dud nights because I put on a show that was 90% multi-man tags and the non-fans were burned out by then. I've also had a few more hard hitting matches put people off because "they're hitting each other for real".
