Was WCW ever good? Everything I see of it makes it look like a clown show from start to finish.

The only time WCW truly went off the rails was during the WCW 2000 era where Russo turned them into and even more absurd version of the WWF.

WWE revisionist history, WCW was great. The Russo booking around 2000 is kind of dumb, but it's no worse than McMahon's booking honestly

WCW for me was fucking kino. I remember watching their Saturday Night thing (the one with the steel factory doors) and watching bangers like Harlem Heat vs Stars and Stripes, and the endless amount of jobbers was incredible compared to today where jobbers hold belts and are considered top talent. Fire and Ice would absolutely HEEM the entire AEW roster.

It had good parts even in its dying days, with Steiner as the champ and Booker T in the main event scene. Don't let propaganda fool you out of good wrestling, which wcw had a lot of during its run.

WCW was actually good at one point. Before 97/98 and before Hall and Nash came in WCW was beating WWE in ratings consistently.

WCW really started to shit the bed after 1998 and when they changed their log in 99 that’s when you know it was past it’s prime

People here who never saw wrestling live on TV before 2000 (no, watching it on youtube isn't the same thing) just will never understand how good WCW was. Even in its worst days it had wrestling that made the shit on tv now look fucking stupid. The first house of WCW is legend. Anyone who loves or hates jericho but never saw him as a young guy in WCW should really check out some of his matches with all the talent he was coming up with.

I get that NWO was the biggest thing they ever did, and was one of the biggest things in pro wrestling history. But that slow turn into being the exact same style as WWE is probably what killed them in the end. They used to pride themselves on being the "real" wrestling show while WWF was a cartoon. After NWO peaked and Russo came in, it was even more cartoonish than WWE ever was.

Most of the stuff people associate with russo (in both wwe and wcw) he had 0 to do with. You can not like him or some of his choices but the nonsense about russo is just too fucking much. He wasn't a tony khan. He wasn't a vince mcmahon. He doesn't produce any wrestling stories in the current era.

The combination of Russo, WWE steam rolling WCW, and talent negotiating big contracts with too much creative control is what really fucked WCW. Just seemed like the wild west of dumb ideas after 99/2000. It’s so crazy to see how cursed the NWO ended up being at the end. Literally felt like half the roster was NWO, b/w or r/b

Some Bischoff podcast from a year ago he mentioned that he didn't care about wrestling, he was in the tv business and wanted to be bigger than WWE. And I was thinking wtf is he talking about? Every nitro from 1995/1996 he kept saying on commentary how WCW is the only place for real wrestling. Dude lies and contradicts himself all the time.

That wholly describes WCW in relationship to WWF (even when they took over in the ratings, it was only because they stole WWF wrestlers). While it sounds eerily similar to what AEW is doing, they'll NEVER defeat current WWE in any metric. AEW isn't even in WWE's league. They're TNA tier at best.

the midcards were always boring
hogan vs flair
hogan vs savage
hogan vs piper
hogan vs giant
hogan vs vader
that's about it. dungeon of doom started good but there never did a big sullivan vs hogan one on one blowoff match so it was a waste of time.
wcw couldn't really last, they ran out of people for hogan to face. hall and nash would have been strong opponents but instead they teamed up which long term was a stupid idea.
hall vs hogan would've been huge but they never did it.

1989 initial WCW was good.

1992 WCW was great.

1996-1997 WCW was epic, though very uneven at times.

Then it all falls apart, although I did enjoy the first three months of Russo's run in 1999 with the tournament and Bret's big push... until he brings back the nWo yet again. Then it's irredeemable.

BATB 2000 is cool, too, I guess.

Yeah, I don't trust Bischoff in any conversation where he has the incentive to lie. When he's talking about the successes he's legitimately responsible for, I can trust him a little bit more.
