I dont think you get why they do it tho. Its a pitch to get people who still watch cable to tune in, and the only people who still pay for cable are like 45+ and would remember these names from when they were young and wrestling was way more household than today.

No boomer/gen xer knows shit about Kenny Omega or the Usos. But they loved and watched guys like Sting, Rock, Austin etc and seeinf an featuring them is a better ploy than selling them on dudes half their age theyve never seen before

I saw RVD wrestle Bullet Club AJ Styles like 10 years ago at an indy in New Jersey. It is the worst main event I've ever seen. RVD walked around the ring for 10 minutes, they each did like two spots, and it went to DQ. He's been washed up for years.
