It’s understandably a difficult subject. Was Benoit a good wrestler? Yes. But he really did kill his family. Separating the art from the artist is always going to be a debated topic. I’m personally for it, but in the case of Benoit, it’s hard to not see a murderer. If you can enjoy his matches, I really feel that’s fair, but I can’t. He was a known dick before murdering his family. Hardcore Holly tier type of guy. Asking for him to be in any HOF, absolutely not. As far as people mentioning the murders when you bring him up, I think it’s fair, but it’s also fair for you to enjoy his matches. I don’t know why Redditors are like that. Anything for moral/social points.

if you really think about it wrestlers dont really have the same kinda respect that artists or musicians do when it comes to the whole "art vs the artist" conversation. It's sorta understandable though because I mean when you're a wrestler your image and identity with the crowd is everything in that industry so obviously it's going to be way harder to make the argument "yeah but they still were talented for what they did" because desu part of being a good wrestler is keeping a clean image and being a good role model

If it was hulk hogan or steve austin I could understand. it would be conflicting. but it's chris benoit lol. he was completely average and not a draw. only turbo smarks and 2000s kids still have a soft spot for him. he wasn't that good at his art so it's easy for him killing his wife and child to overshadow it. he's not even worth remembering. you can erase his career from history and it has little impact because he was mostly bland and pointless
