Kaito has been treated by NOAH very well except the three times they sacrificed him for New Japan.
Going into the G1 he was already well established and New Japan just undoes all of his progress because Kaito doesn't want to be poached.
You'd think New Japan would repay the favor for how cooperative NOAH has been but they refuse to swallow their pride unless its for AEW

Marufuji's NJPW appearances were mostly pre-Okada before NJPW really started blowing up with that second G1 being when Jado was booking NOAH. Plus Marufuji was arguably NOAH's top guy and debuted before even Tanahashi so it's not like they could punk him out.

Kaito is younger and NJPW is far bigger now than it was whe Marufuji was showing up so they had way more ability to big dick NOAH.

Nobody forced them but NOAH probably think that enough good will had been built up to make him look good. Instead they booked him like complete shit and on the same level as guys who were, until very recently, Young Lions. This is in spite of the fact that Kaito is, again, a multi time WHC and a guy who has a win over Mutoh, and yet he's being booked on the same level as or inferior to Young Lions, Gabe Kidd, and fucking Hikuleo.

No matter what anyone says he got buried and given that Marufuji is NOAH's VP and just openly bitched about how he was booked and how NJPW has treated the whole thing hopefully this wises them up and makes them realize that there's no benefit to working with Bushiroad.
