he's trying to get fired so that Tony will have to pay out his contract, he wanted to leave after all out but realised he would be in breach of contract and he can't afford getting sued cause he already lost all his money from a dodgy real estate deal, it's why he tried getting WWE to rehire him, it's why he took that job with FOX on that post smackdown show and it's why he agreed to come to AEW despite previously turning them down, he's broke but his ego is too big to just play ball and do his job properly, he wants out but he needs money

But why? Nobody else is going to pay him the money that Tony would pay him. He is a joke to everybody else in the world. He is dumb as hell for blowing the last big money job he will ever have. Tony is the only one stupid enough to pay him big money after the UFC debacle and subsequent embarrassments (like the FOX thing). He could have made easy money from Tony for years

that's the point, he needs Tony to fire him so that he will get his contract paid out, if he quits he gets nothing and if he keeps getting injured the contract will just get extended due to injury time and he'll definitely keep injuring himself, he knows his return has been a failure, he knows this is his last big money contract if he doesn't get his money from AEW he's gonna be forced to keep humiliating himself by taking Indy dates and doing the convention circuit with all the other old timers who didn't save their money, his ego could never handle that, he needs Tony to fire him
