Ospreay is probably more than half way into being an AEW employee already. He acted like his "8 year journey" came to a close the night he beat Okada in the G1. That was probably the last NJPW match he gave a shit about. Now it will just be him putting a few people over on his way out. Plus, they do get an easy million from Forbidden Door every year. That's like a Wrestle Kingdom gate for them but with much less investment on their end.

NJPW needs to focus on rebuilding its brand in JP. The entire idea of a western expansion, while at least plausible in like 2017, would only serve to distract them from what should be their main goal.

So I haven't watched the G1 Final yet.
Did Naito and Okada finally have a good match? They've been attached at the hip for years but I've always felt like they have negative chemistry, like they've always had better matches with other people but never with each other.

I think that's where the attitude of people being "burned out" on the matchup started. It's not like they've spammed it THAT often but last year they did bam-bam-bam big half hour matches basically back to back to back

kinda but not really. Western promotions are very much centered around the weekly televison show; they tour, but it's incidental. NJPW's business is the opposite: the tour is the important part, and the television is secondary.

I don't know the ins and outs of the television deal in Japan; I know they're on TV Asahi mostly but they also do stuff exclusive to Samurai TV. Regardless, the tours and PPVs get cut up into clips and put into a weekly clip show called World Pro Wrestling, which also airs internationally. However this usually lags behind.

If you want to watch NJPW, you mostly want to just stream the big shows on NJPW World. "Road To..." shows can also be fun, but they're more like house shows.

Anyone else go to the junior festival in person? I was really pleased. The crowd seemed barely half full, but those that were there were loud. I was super hype that my guy DOUKI won the ladder match.
