If I were to go back and watch the Attitude Era on Peacock, and I’ve never seen any of it before, should I just watch the PPVs, or should I watch all the weekly TV episodes?

All the promos and story building is on Raw, the PPVs are pretty much just matches.
I'd also watch WCW from Scott Hall's debut up until Sting vs Hogan at Starrcade. To the formation of the The Wolfpac or to the Finger Poke of Doom if you feel like it.

Watching all that is some of the best wrestling characters and story you'll see. From there, you'll start the Attitude Era proper from Survivor Series 97.

Normies know and love the Austin that started in 1998, when the feud with Vince really started to cook. But there's a ton of underrated gold promos and segments involving Austin from 1996-97, that was prime Austin back when he was still hungry and still proving himself as worthy of being the guy
Shit, go ahead and even try to find and watch every segment with Austin in it from the lesser-known weekend recap shows like WWF Livewire (the Saturday morning show). Austin even has some great original rants there that a lot of people missed

From this point on, the Attitude Era started to feel a little too formulaic. Not bad (except for HHH) but certainly not the same can't miss TV of the previous era. I would consider this the Silver Age. From here you get a real mix of good and bad, though at the start of 00 with the McMahon-Helmsley was kino... but it also peaked at Backlash 00, and then we enter the bronze age before the finale at Wrestlemania 17.

There's plenty of attitude documentaries and specials so start there, or some of the curated playlists. Trying to marathon it all will be a drag, I tried it when I was a neet

Good post. Yeah that 97 roster was amazing...you also had Faarooq, Ahmed, Shamrock, Sid, and even Triple H was cool at the time and played his part well.

Only thing I'd tweak here is that Summerslam 97 to Survivor Series is another mini-"season" and this when the show went full attitude for me. You had HBK's heel turn and the birth of DX, Rocky's heel turn, Kane's debut, etc. All the ingredients were there leading up to Montreal already. Shawn's heel turn is when it seemed like Raw went from Bret and Austin beating the hell out of each other and foul language to something you really might not have wanted your own kids to watch if you were a parent at the time.

Funnily enough, I was just tweaking the roster because I released I've forgotten names like Vader, Shamrock, Sable, Sycho Sid etc. I'm deadly serious though, a few minor tweaks with acts from ECW and WCW and you have the perfect fucking roster. You even had legends like Ulitmate Warrior, Rick Rude, and Jake the Snake in there. Again, crazy fucking roster.

To address your point, you could absolutely cut 96-97 into mini-seasons, but the reason I lump it all together is that this was when the metamorphosis of the company began in earnest. I posted it above, the Pillman's got a Gun segment would completely alter the company's presentation and move it towards the more gonzo, crash TV, chaotic nature which made it such a delight and experience to watch. I would stay up late into the night and watch the show, only to be dead the following day at school. Not that I minded, because all my friends were the same. It was something else, a genuinely speical time.
