Cats you could get away with it if they were raised with food just all over the place to eat when they feel like it and you left them enough food and water. Dogs would implode instantly.

But most likely they ask a friend to look after them.

You would still have to have someone empty the litter if you don't want shit all over your house when you come back. I guess if you had a self cleaning litter box you would have some more time but even those have to emptied pretty often.

I've got five myself. Had one feral cat that I domesticated and live outside but she got knocked up and I didn't have the heart to split them all up so now I have five. They're definitely more independent than dogs though. They feed themselves pretty much and don't overeat so no insane weight gain. Changing their litter and refilling their food/water every few days is about all you have to do for them.

One of them is. The four younger ones are inside. The outdoor cat only comes in at night then goes back out in the morning.

How young? Cuz if they're gonna be outdoorsy too they gotta learn to navigate while they're younger. Unless you plan to just keep them as fully indoor cats.

You can leave a cat with enough food and water for a week, probably the safest max.
Even easier if you have one of those automated food/water systems that works on a timer, plus leave the toilet bowl lids up for more water access.
Adult cats sleep 80% of their time anyway.
Still better if you can have a friend drop in every 3-4 days just to check on them.

They don't sleep, they just sorta, chill. They like to do their rounds of their "territory" and then find a high up place to just sorta exist and keep an eye out over it.

I'm keeping the four of them inside. They've got a two story to have free reign in and they seem pretty happy. I didn't want to release four of them out into the neighborhood. My outdoor cat is extremely well behaved and as far as I know mostly stays contained to my yard. The four younger ones are about a year and a half now, going on two years pretty soon. I've got a pretty good setup with them and they seem fairly happy with how much room they have.

Yeah, you normally want to get them out there fairly early but I had already decided I was going to keep them inside before they were born. I didn't want to be that one neighbor that has a shit load of cats roaming around the neighborhood lol

I was originally going to adopt them out and just keep one but literally everyone I set up to take them either bailed at the last minute or never showed/didn't respond so I had to keep them for longer than I planned. I ended up getting attached to them and the mother cat loves having other cats around so I just said fuck it and kept them. I'm glad I did, they've been a great joy and have quickly become my favorite pets I've owned throughout my life. It can be a handful at times but the joy definitely outweighs it.

I only got 2 from the same litter, so they grew up together same, cats just have a cool dynamic where they'll hang out (if they socialise with each other well) and then go do their own thing until they decide to hang out again.

Yeah I agree, it's a joy to watch them do their thing together. I was expecting there to be more issues with four of them constantly around each other but I've yet to have to break up a fight or anything. They're incredibly gentle with one another and do great together. What kind are you two cats?

Just generic tabby, nothing special. And it's easiest for them when they grow up together. Except when they decide to play once in a while as adults and you have a 4 kilo cat jumping at speed you don't think should be possible.

Oh I've definitely already got a few scars. Most of the time it's due to them getting scared and all four of them take off at the speed of light, running over me in the process and catching me with their claws. Those instances are few and far between though. But those scratches are definitely the worst because they are claws out full on running. It's funny when they don't scratch you though, one gets scared over absolutely nothing and runs which sends the other three into a frenzy.
The worst damage they've done so far though is breaking my second monitor on my PC setup lol I was pissed but what can you do? Comes with the territory.

They gonna break what they gonna break. At least ours are generically curious, not "I want to push this to see where it'll go" curious, plus they can open doors, which is nice because I don't feel the need to leave doors open in the winter.

Cats are extremely based. One night I heard a crash in another room. I go to the room where my cat generally stayed and turn on the light. She had knocked over a box fan. I though ok, whatever. I start to put the fan back up and notice there's a huge spider on it. About the size of a 50 cent piece. It must have been crawling on the fan and my cat tipped it over to kwab the spider. The spider got crushed so hard that it was stuck to the fan. I bet my cat stood on the fan before I got there to make sure it was crushed. I petted her and gave her treats. She purred loudly as I cleaned up the spider remains

Mine would sleep in three spots all day, same rotation.
Foot of my bed, get up get food, look out the window, sleep in second spot - dining room floor in the sunbeam (no sunbeam on one of the dining room chairs under the table).
Get up, go to litter, look out a different window, sleep in third spot -same part of couch.

They also won't "shit all over the place" they pick corners or behind door. One of the reasons humans were cool with cats living in their barns is besides keeping mice away from the cows, they don't like to shit where they eat/sleep, they go outside and even kick dirt on it.
The groom themselves and each other, they're obsessively "clean" compared to other animals.
If they're not neutered/spayed they will however piss spray all over the place.
