I was watching the WWE Network playlist last night and uh....it was not great. Recommend some Bray matches that don't 100% totally suck. So far I have

He got over and was always over with his promos and angles, shit in the ring doesn't matter. Most celebrated wrestlers weren't really that good in the ring but carried their work with charisma, character work, promos etc.

His cage match against Jericho on Raw is great.
The survivor series match in 2016. Can't remember if all of it is good but this is a big highlight for Bray and Randy.

I watched it just now. It's not as bad as its reputation is, but I'm guessing it was a lot worse if you were actually watching back then and invested in things.

I laughed out loud when the referee was like NO SETH DON'T DO IT and when Bray got out the hammer that looked like it was made of cardboard.

I watched him wrestle back in 2016-2017 and thought to myself "what the fuck makes people like him so much, because it sure isn't his wrestling."
The whole Sister Abigail thing went past me and the drama and theatre of it all made his act look like a sideshow at a carnival, perhaps the most wrestling thing about the whole WWE at that point.
If that was his goal, he succeeded. Even if it didn't resonate with me.
Without the angles and gimmicks, you have what's really just another midcard type wrestler who knows some ring psychology but always looks like his clothes don't fit (too small) and runs like he's blown up before he's actually blown up.

To put it another way, he needed the gimmicks to get over. Without them, just another guy.
