They know more than anyone else how insufferable the people are getting. I think they really just don't give a fuck anymore. Why keep trying to sell the kayfabe of the past when the audience isn't really growing anyways? When the current fanbase is probably always going to watch regardless? So they figure they may as well have fun making a mockery of wrestling. In their minds why not when even past legends like Flair did constant comedy matches. Flair himself was a comedic wrestler practically his entire career and he's one of the all time goats.
