Austin is still super over TODAY. Can't say the same for Hogan. Had he been able to wrestle at last year's Mania, it certainly wouldn't have been as successful as Austin's match. People might not have even really given that much of a shit.

Austin's peak was better and more dimes than anything Hogan ever did, but you can't deny that Austin's run was short, he was only on top in one promotion, he never reinvented himself after getting over, his heel run didn't work and he was stale by the end.

Hogan was more dimes in the 80s if you adjust for inflation and the fact there wasn't even PPV until WrestleMania 3 and then only 2-3 PPVs a year for most of his run

In short, Austin was the better worker in the traditional sense of the word. He worked the traditional match, got the crowd into him the way it's supposed to be. He was still entertaining but was a pro wrestler first and entertainer second. Hogan was the other way around. He found one shtick that worked and that's all he did for his entire career. You paid to see him hulk up and overcome the odds. Every time Hogan came out you knew exactly what you're getting and you liked it anyways. He was more of a special attraction than a pro wrestler which fit perfectly into the vision Vince had for the wrestling business. Hogan transcended wrestling in a way no other wrestler ever did and that's why he's the GOAT. However if we're not taking this into account, the actual wrestler's wrestler GOAT is neither one of these but Ric Flair IMO.

It hurts me to say this, but Hogan had a longer career and was still at the top of the game for about a 40-year span. Austin was amazing for about 4 years. It has to be Hogan.

Its tough to pick one over the other. They both tapped into the zeitgeist to become the top guys. They're both charisma machines with great promos. They both could work even with injuries and age slowing them down. Hogan did have two legendary runs in WWF and then in WCW, each as a different role as face and heel. Hogan may have been a cool heel but people were responding to the nWo in the right ways whereas Austin's heel turn was a lot weaker.
