The Selling Question

No.11410369 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
I might be getting too autistic about wrestling, but I really can't help but be really bothered by the state of modern wrestlers' selling in their matches. The glaring logical inconsistencies that it entails are so dreadful that it makes their bouts come across as a complete waste of time, as if you just crashed a car but turned the damage mechanics off. Is it really so difficult to either avoid overdoing moves that look like they should send you straight to the wheelchair or at least have the decency to not kick out immediately? And don't even get me started on ''limb work'' matches. We just had two awful examples of that during this one week!
>Orange Cassidy vs Penta
Orange took two back-to-back package piledrivers which, in kayfabe, are supposed to land straight on the top of your head (one of them delivered on the apron), and he still not only managed to kick out, but he then hit a punch with his kayfabe sawdusted wrist and cut a promo right afterwards. Disgusting.
>Seth vs Nakamura
The story was built around Seth's supposedly destroyed spine, and what does this faggot do? He gave us a swanton, took rough slams and topped it all with a spot where he reversed an armbar into a one-armed powerbomb. Then he wins. Come on, man.
>It's fake. They can overpower anything through fighting spirit
Every piece of fiction works within a set of rules, and you can't go around breaking that shit all the time while still expecting the immersion to keep up. It wasn't always this bad.
What outlines the difference between indie shitter syndrome and actual fighting spirit, is the crowd's investment, and how much does it serve the story vs how does it serve your meta stock.
Yet, I don't know how wrestling could move past this problem now, with the era of ever faster pace and crazier moves being mundane. Could the logical gaps ever be fixed? Because I unironically think that it's one of the main issues holding it back from being major league at this point. It signals a lack of growth.
