Nyla was actually as much a nepotism hire as a diversity hire. Like, he's related somehow to Scorpio Sky (who is also Brandi Rhodes' cousin), IIRC. That's not really the case with any of those other names.

He was a stable of the hardcore and could have been a great demented, monster-like character like old Mankind, Nick Gage, or Abyss.

Lil dude was just doing his thing. I liked him. He was never going to win big titles but might get an upset win on a big star, but he had the potential to be a different and valuable member of the roster. He was, unironically, fun. A great character for heels to work with, beating up this child.

Nepotism? Perhaps, but he was a decent enough wrestler and ran his own promotions and events which AEW could use to either scout out talent (I know Joey didn't do that, but others probably did) and Joey could be a good gatekeeper wrestler, like Spears, or Luther.
