Jack Perry wanted to do the spot and it's claimed he got approval, but nobody verified that he did.
The AEW production team didn't want to do the glass spot. Tony Schiavone was approached for advice and he told Perry to just go with the flow and save it for another day.
Perry went by all the agents and they all told him "no we're not doing it".

In fact, him saying "THIS IS REAL GLASS, GO CRY ME A RIVER" wasn't personally targeted at CM Punk, as literally the whole team was against it, and names weren't mentioned.
Perry wasn't even personal about it towards Punk when he came back through Gorilla Position.
