>>11481277Toni acts well with this gimmick, but nothing matters in AEW right now and the average other person in the company is uninteresting.
Just watched this interview with Renee and one with Tony S. and they are so dull it deflates the scene. Not to mention the fact that what the interviews are about are pointing to events taking place that are just not that riveting. Who, for example, cares about Saraya as champion?
Which isn't to say Toni is doing her bit perfectly. You can play her deflections she's been doing off as part of the gimmick, but her non-answers don't advance the plot nor do they serve as good enough character development to justify taking these opportunities just to not build anything.
The first step would be for her to have someone to bounce off / play off, and is there anyone? This gimmick in a void, personally, doesn't work for me. It's not to say it's bad, but it's terribly out of place; it's like a Bondvillain in a romcom---where do you expect the interactions between the two camps to lead, and how much chemistry will you really expect them to have moment-to-moment?
Where this gimmick falls flat just really exposes how otherwise lacking the roster and worldbuilding of AEW is.
