What the fuck was the point? He's one of the best juniors they have in a division that's paper thin and he's done absolutely nothing except opener nothing tags. I would say I'll miss him but with how he's been used it'll be sorta hard to notice him gone.

The mexican bros have been over with me ever since their debut match where they made a Crucifix Driver look amazing. I'm not usually one for spotfests even from luchadores but these guys are impossibly smooth. I'd like to see them as tag champs, partially because God knows those titles could use some new holders and partially because we'd get at least a defense out of it. They're even better working together than against each other.

Don't think I've seen a backslide driver performed ever, but looking it up it kinda just looks like a high-angle crucifix bomb, based.
I like the crucifix driver whne done well, but that's so rarely the case. Most of the time it just looks like the receiver doing a backflip.

I don't think people do Backslide Drivers much because they're pretty dangerous. It's kind of an even higher altitude Kudo Driver or something.

But it's one of my favorite moves in wrestling because it makes something so conventional into a super finisher

I have a question for you Webmchad (and anybody else who might find this interesting): How emotionally invested are you in what's going on with these promotions' matches and storylines? Most of what I see is people being very hyped and enthusiastic about the wrestling, but still being too detached to buy into the stories with all their senses. I know I personally struggle with that, more often just watching things with a "critical eye" as opposed to a regular old fan's heart. The last time I found myself rooting for someone with true suspension of disbelief was the first Ospreay/Omega bout, and while that is somewhat of a clichéd, it was the most convincing valiant babyface performance I had see in a while, therefore tearing through the veils of irony/criticism/smarkdom and reaching my heart. That's one of the key differences I find between watching current wrestling and 2000s NOAH for example, but maybe that has more to do with subscribing to the established lengthy myths associated with those characters and that era than anything else.

Great question. I think I have an easier time with that than most. Maybe it's how I look at wrestling to begin with, or something else, but I find myself getting invested quite a bit. I was out of my seat for the G1 finals, before that it was Tsuji's debut, and before that Jay vs. Hikuleo. Even though I knew the results of those matches with 80%+ certainty, that part of my brain entirely disconnects once shit gets going. Obviously for these Road To shows and undercard matches I'm way more inclined to sit back and go "lol SHO based new champ" but with the bigger matches, almost more often than not, I get invested. Being a mark isn't a bad thing.

I know this isn't just a chokeslam, but I don't know what this variation is called.
What a cool finish this is, by the way. Kawada gets out of the first countout by a sliver of a second, but there's no escaping this and Taue basically celebrates as soon as he gets inside the ring.

This match is usually considered the weakest of the three, and I honestly don't see why. There isn't a clear worst in my opinion, if pressed I'd probably put this OVER their second match. It's crazy good and should definitely be mentioned along the first two, instead of "they had two matches, oh and this one"

Thank you all for hanging out another week! I'm always happy to continue the King's Road posting, almost halfway though 1991 at this point.
