Steroid trial led to Vince trying smaller for the time guys like Shawn and Bret as world champ. Rise in US interest in Mexican luchadores, Japan Jr heavyweights (Jushin Liger, etc.), elements of ECW, faster paced wrestling. Led to ROH and the indy feeder system focused more on star ratings and such VS believable looking tough guys.
