Even when wrestling was at its absolute peak, it was only drawing advertisment interest from shit like pimple pads, junk food, and Z-tier workout supplements.
A wrestling show needs to draw significantly higher ratings than normal programming that could fill the slot so that the ad rates on it can be boosted up to accectable levels. This is why Smackdown is going to get canceled by Fox, and why AEW and Raw won't be getting the massive boosts in their contracts they think they will. All of these spots can be filled by programs that get equal or slightly lower ratings, but get advertisement from things like car manufacturers, insurance, or alcohol, all of which get far, far higher advertising rates.
