Dunno if it's an autism thing or what but I swear Tony doesn't understand momentum. Darby and Eddie just off the top of my head were super over at one point and Tony just kept booking them in random matches until it faded. Vince knew when a guy was getting heat, even if he didn't like them he'd at least book their burial higher up the card

AEW President Tony Khan spoke at the post-Revolution media scrum last night and noted that pay-per-view buys for Revolution were trending in the range of 130,000 to 140,000.

As evidenced by the fact that he allowed Ryan Ward to make James Ellsworth a pivotal part of SmackDown's main storyline in 2016. Ellsworth was getting over as a face rather than getting heat, but the point remains. Vince capitalized on momentum. If Tony was gifted an angle like that, he would have fucked it up within a week of getting it.
