I have no idea who the best pillar is. I would never disrespect Taue, but it’s obviously not him. Kawada was possibly the GOAT at one point, but I decided his mid-2000’s AJPW run sours the idea of him as the best and I think even Kawada knows he’s not. So it’s really either Kobashi or Misawa. What are you thinking?

A few. They were more important to AJPW than Bret, Shawn, Taker, Sid, etc. were to WWF around the same time. No disrespect to them, I like them, but if I were to make a comparison, they were all like Austin, Rock, Hogan type of important to AJPW. All 4 were essential to the company, they drew very well and they’re still legends in Japan to this day.

I was thinking that. I’m thinking on a lot of different levels. Who would give X wrestler their best match, who would get most over in other countries, who was the most over in Japan, who could work other styles in different promotions and so on. I’d say Kobashi would get over in America a lot quicker than the other 3. Misawa could probably give an outsider their best match, let’s say a random guy like Sting or Kurt Angle. Misawa was probably the most over in Japan. He probably is the best of them, if I’m honest. I think Kobashi has a more fiery comeback which almost makes him more based though.

not sure about best, but kawada's my favorite. he had the most interesting arc out of all of them, and his selling was second to none. kawada also was apart of arguably the best ajpw match of the 80s in the 88 rwtl finals and i don't think any of the other pillars would've been as good in that match as he was. and i also really love his run in 2000 after exodus because he had 3 moty contenders almost back to back to back with the sasaki match, tenryu match and the fuchi/nagata/iizuka draw

It's Misawa but it's hipster to say Kobashi. Kobashi had a better 00s than any of them, I guess but realistically Misawa isn't that far behind and Misawa's 90s was far better. Also, Kobashi's 00s is deceptive because he was only really active in half the decade.

Misawa probably had the highest highs but I do think Kobashi is in the running for greatest babyface of all time and Kobashi ended on a sweeter note without dying like Misawa or just losing the will to wrestle and fading out like Kawada.
