In Homer's case I can attest to him not being 'removed' because absolutely no viewers could stand his ass for years but Johnny ALWAYS kept him involved and stood by him. Don't think he would have suddenly changed his mind, I think the only reason he stopped appearing is because he had a shoot mental breakdown after Bryan won the title at Mania 30 and may have removed himself from life for all anybody knows, he just vanished.
