Ziggler always sucked. Shit promos. Shit finisher. Oversells worse than HBK. Shit ring gear. No gimmick. Just overall doesn’t have the look.

The thing is what most wrestlers who oversell don't get is that it looks phony as hell. How am i to belief that such a simple move like OP posted does less damage to a wrestler than most of the finishers in wrestling? Save the big sells for the biggest spots, it's that simple.

Ziggler was the man. Still is. People wanted to see him in a higher spot on the card for a ton of reasons. His MITB cash in pop could hold its own against any Stone Cold pop. He was over. Had he been given a Bryan style push instead of the hot/cold booking that conditioned people not to care he'd be spoken of very different today

He was adequate in ring and an entertaining seller
His promo was above average
His look was pretty good

He suffered from the same thing all WWE personnel suffer from - abhorrent writing staff.
Also his Name held him back.

He is not much different than Seth, or Dean, or Cody talent wise.
Never be a Sami Zayn or a Daniel Bryan, but more talented than most of their peers.

These 89/100 attribute guys can not succeed without competent writing.
And you'll find no such thing in WWE (nor aew really)

One million percent true. Ziggler's role was as an excellent jobber that wasn't a no-name. He was great when he was taking garbage can shots from Jeff Hardy or selling for some midcarder or being used as fodder for a guy like Lesnar.

The problem is all the internet nerds, the OG ones that started this push for mediocrity in wrestling in the late 00s/early 10s, jerked off to him so much and believed he was more than that. He's not, and never has been.

Ziggler selling so hard for any and everybody put him in a no-win situation. He existed to make everybody look good, there was never an air of Ziggler being the one to beat. For as much as he wanted to be HBK he never had the same "it" factor.
He did look great in the late 00s and stood out in a pack because there weren't many guys doing the same thing but already in the early 10s WWE was moving on to a bunch of indie guys they had their eye on.

If he ever took the risk and left, he would be a main eventer now in one of the big companies.

His fault. He never took the risk. If he fucking left like Cody did, he probably would've mogged Cody anyway. Cody basically latched on to BC because it was the only way he can remain relevant.

I think Ziggler would've excelled anywhere, could use his name, and probably be allowed to come back with it when it was time. He took an easy check, but he probably would've been in a better position, paid more, and actually relevant.

I used to work for the government, and it's a nice job, but watching those people who were there for decades slowly decay, depressed the shit out of me and I got the fuck out. Sometimes you have to take a risk. I make more now in private and I'm far more comfortable.

idk about other promotions but id imagine hed still be making shitters look good in AEW and the arguement is full circle. Once you show anyone you can enhance others thats all youll be used for.
