The WWE was built as a sports entertainment machine because the entirety of the pro wrestling business is inundated with drug traffickers, sex traffickers and pedophiles.
Vince tried to protect the business by removing it from itself as much as he possibly could.
But there's too much dirt out there, too much filth, and he reckons that no matter who leads the WWE, when all that filth emerges the WWE will go bankrupt from stock dumps and renegs on the rights fees / cancellation of TV deals.

I truly believe Vince started to consider selling after RR 2020. Triple Hs heart attack probably sealed it and Vince getting kicked off his own board expedited him selling to Ari because it gave him a way back.

Vince is a spiteful and weird man who's entire career has been him getting lucky twice (first time being born Vince Sr's son, second time having Rocky Maivia and Chilly McFreeze get over despite his best efforts), and otherwise it's just constant decline. Vince succeeds in spite of himself, and then spends the next several years steadily declining. He's a workaholic to the point he has no real connection to or relationship with his family. He probably thinks Shane should "do it on his own" when his own father """sold""" him the WWWF for a pittance and handed him things like Andre and the world's most profitable territory on a platter

But at this point, I doubt Shane wants it. He's old, he's rich, he can do whatever he wants, he has a family. I doubt Steph wants it anymore either, especially after the heart attack.

The real problem is going to be trying to reclaim wrestling history in ten to fifteen years, the WWE tape library is going to cost Tommy Khan a lot

All that needs to be said about Vince. He's based, but this is true. He's not a business genius, he's a good networker and motivator in the right place at the right time. If he had to start his own promotion back in the day, somewhere in Kentucky, he would have flopped.
