From the VOW boards, a quick summary:
Punk was always planned to beat Joe at All In.
He was then going to beat Ricky Starks at All Out
That was then going to lead to a match with MJF at Grand Slam. Originally this would be title vs “real worlds title” with MJF winning and merging the two belts. Punk would then shake hands with MJF.
Punk “hated” this first pass and suggested that he and MJF not be for either title, but that he’d win their first match and then eventually lose a rematch. Tony Khan rejected this as it felt anticlimactic
Punk countered with it just being for the “real worlds title”, allowing Punk to win without MJF losing the belt. This was shot down almost immediately and Punk apparently pitched an alternate story with Miro instead.
MJF was brought in at this point as Punk professed to enjoy working with him preciously, but Punk repeatedly said that he “would not lose to MJF right now” and kept arguing that his title was “more important than MJF winning”. MJF then suggested a program with Samoa Joe, at which point Punk said he was “running away from the problem”
As things stood prior to Punk’s firing, he was going over Ricky Starks at All Out, then entering a program with Miro instead.
