I was a women's wrestling journalist in the early 2010s, and so I'd be covering matches from shows like WWE Superstars and Main Event where the 'Diva types' would be getting time to wrestle and you could see that they had so much more to offer than what WWE were giving them on the main shows. Aksana isn't remembered fondly, but she had some great matches on Superstars with the likes of Layla and Natalya. And everyone blamed the women themselves for not being good enough to get longer time slots, but they had an uphill struggle with how the agents put so many restrictions on what they could do.
Michelle McCool, even when married to the Undertaker, still had to get told off for doing a spot with Melina that was too good or had to refilm a match with Victoria because their punches looked too brutal. Gail Kim had to sneak moves and spots in past the agents who tried to make their wrestling more girly. One week they were told they weren't allowed to punch, the next not allowed to kick. And when they got to TV, they'd have their match times slashed right as they'd be about to go out. And it's so disappointing when you think of how good the 2009-2010 roster was - Beth Phoenix, Natalya, Gail Kim, Melina, Mickie James, Katie Lea, Victoria, Jillian Hall, Alicia Fox, Naomi, AJ Lee, Michelle McCool and then the Diva types of the Bellas, Eve Torres, Kelly Kelly, Maryse and Layla could be brought to a good match with the right opponent. And then they had Angela Fong, Serena Deeb and Taryn Terrell who got released before they could even really show what they could do. They could have had the "Women's Revolution" then and there with that roster if they'd bothered to invest the time and effort, especially with the PG switch forcing them to tone down the T&A stuff.
