do wrestling managers actually manage their wrestlers and handle shit off screen for them or are they just to do there promos for them?

some did some were just mouth pieces depends on the manager and who they are working with, was more common in the territories but you still get the occasional manager doing it like Paul Heyman who was very hands on with Brock and Roman
