It was debated strongly during the writers meeting, with Stephanie McMahon (not surprisingly) and Paul Heyman pushing to keep the belt on Triple H, while most everyone else argued to put it on Hogan and strike while the iron is hot. Ultimately, Vince decided to go with Hogan.

Kek, it will never not be funny to me. 2002, Paul comes back and is given everything to be made the star he and Vince always thought he was going to be. Is given a music video, is given a long documentary about his recovery, is fellated on the commentary, wins the Rumbles, road to Wrestlemania, is put into a feud where Jericho is made to look weak and Stephaine is the real villain, on track to be the second ever undisputed champion... gets completely upstaged by Rock and Hogan. One month later, everyone is bored of him. Does the Job to Hogan. Loses the belt. Has a terrible feud with Carder. Is such a colossal flop he is soon back to being a heel against Shawn Michaels. Unironically one of the biggest KWABs in all wrestling and a firm reminder that Paul was, and never will be, the guy like Austin, Rock, Hogan, Macho, Hart, Michaels, or Cena.

Gaytch spent MONTHS brainwashing fans with constant vignettes and promos so he could get one fucking pop in his career, and then he reminded everyone he was utter dogshit and they turned on him again. There were no ''plans'', he crashed and burned despite having the entire machine behind him, Hogan (an actual star) winning saved the main event scene.

Usually, I would agree with you, but when it comes to Cunter, it's slightly different. This nigger was routinely placed in the main event and constantly pushed despite being a huge flop over and over. Think how many other wrestlers got fucked over by one bad promo or one bad match? Yet Cunter was given multiple entrance themes, multiple managers, multiple groups, and multiple opportunities to work with the actual stars. For what? Rating cratered when he was front and center of the product and he always ended up as a heel, because he completely sucked as a babyface and nobody bought it. Moreover, as a heel, he was allowed to be a dominant heel (much like Hogan was in WCW). And now, because of his position in the company, he has the WWE trying to completely rewrite history, simply to make himself look greater than he was. Here is something fun. You can't watch Hogan beating HHH at Backlash 2002 on WWE's YouTube channel, but you can watch HHH beating Hogan on a random Smackdown - full match, no less. It's why people's hatred towards Paul endures because he is such a slimy piece of shit. He isn't playing a heel character, he is an actually unlikable cunt who, despite claiming he loves wrestling, has done so much damage to it simply to fulfill his ego.

It must eat him alive that Rock was able to get 2 clean wins over Hogan too and never had to put him over.
