>>11754953Race draws dimes.
Wrestling pundits and obese fans don't wanna admit it, hell they'll fucking smite you for it over the microphone and keyboard from their little desk in the basement, but race conflicts draw by far the most viewers and customers in the history of pro wrestling.
You just have to do the angle the right way.
The last time it was done right, Junkyard Dog was the black babyface. Before that, Sputnik Monroe was the white babyface standing up for the black audience.
Whatever story was told, underneath the veneer of the story was a layer of race relations where depending on which side of the aisle you're on, both the heel and face are completely interchangeable.
And you know something else?
If you stretch it a little, Steve Austin versus the Rock was a race angle. Rocky came out of the Nation of Isl- Domination as the semi-black heel who got over by being a sassy arrogant black urban bitch, and he faced Austin the Southern jeepdriving beerdiving sucker-stunning asswhipping Texas Rattlesnake... babyface, to an overwhelmingly white crowd.
It was never advertised as a race angle.
It was never advertised as "come see this redneck whoop this $7 football dropout".
Contrast; 2-Cool were urbanite hiphoppers, but they were white and were over together with Rikishi the Samoan.
It's just a matter of getting the angle right, and accepting that the majority of the ticketbuying audience that has stopping going to wrestling shows is sick and tired of sissy booking.
