This was my first real experience with following yearly sports series (or "sport", you know what I mean) so I was really confused when they dropped in quality, naive young me figured all they had to do was continuously add stuff and it would be fine

Yeah they had a real bad habit of yanking stuff out, sometimes things they'd only introduced the year prior. GM Mode for instance had two good years, got totally gimped in 08 and was completely gone by 09 and I remember people being mad as hell. The yearly cycle became just Ledesma announcing some big revoutionary feature ('ultimate control moves' etc) that would disappoint everyone and then be gone by the next game.

Svr games past HCTP are soulless garbage because they tried to be more realistic but also dumb at the same time and failed at both
smackdown's engine was only good at providing fast, fun arcade gameplay, even then it had teleports and other crap but once they started adding ultimate moves and all that shit, gameplay became unbearable

No, the shitty attempts at realism and depth ended up making the game actively worse.

All that shit sucks but what 07 has over the later games is you can turn most of that stuff off in options and make it play basically the same as 06. Past 08 it goes full simulation retard and there's no way to turn back.

Bro jumping from 2008 to 2K23 we're talking about a completely different game, series and developer, let's just say the rest of the THQ games didn't have those options. I'm glad 2K23 was a step in the right direction at least but they need to get rid of all the fucking mid-match minigames.

I still like No Mercy the most. Overall I think VPW2 is the best ever. No Mercy is good, but it runs a bit slow when there’s 4 players. It’s also a little slower in general. The wrestlers and moves come out faster in WM2000.

It has a better gm Mode than the modern games. But the gameplay does get boring when u play alone tho, but it has a good career mode with actual good storylines and cutscenes to make up for it.

I’ve only heard not good things about 2k23. Like the GM/Universe mode is hot dog shit, but the creative suite is really fun. I’ve been on the fence for weeks about finally getting 2k23. The last WWE game I owned was ‘14.
