Two main changes. Wrestling fever dropped off (for many other reasons). Traditional sports went through a renaissance.

The tough thing about wrestling now is that it is NOT a sport, so it's not just see TV. It's not like some close game that is totally unpredictable. It's prescripted. There is nothing wrestling can really give to the modern normie audience.
