Its not like this is Tony's first time booking he has booked fantastic debut matches before but what gives? Edge's first match should be at full gear

Nah he hasn't, he hasn't booked anything worthwhile in his life, based on how shit AEW is I'd assume his TEW booking was also shit. Tony should have given Christian a longer run before Edge debuted, which should have been held off until after the holidays. Then do Edge vs. Christian at Revolution, the reunion storyline, the tag run, the Edge heel turn, and finally E vs. C with the alignments reversed so that Edge can put Christian over on his way out like he's always wanted to do. That gets them both through their 3-year contracts. This shit isn't hard.

Tony has been the same since day one.
He books random bullshit. He show is about how he is obsessed with competing with WWE; thebpromos are about ratings and Meltzer stars, the show content is about "dream matches and great matches" instead of making sense.
After Cidyblwft the company lostbmost of it's coherency and all of its brand deals (remember, they used to have a lot of brand deals until Cody left because he was the only person in the office doing any work).
The only time aew has not had production issues on a broadcast was when Collision started and Punk was around. The day Punk left and Tony took over the show was rife with production issues, it looked like shit and lost all of its hype.
A lot of the talent have gotten themselves over in spite of stupid booking and he just jobs them out until no one cares anymore. Even the rare big win they get, he beats them the week after every time. He has given no one a sustained push beyond one win unless they were over already from WWE or New Japan. The only exceptions are MJF and Cassidy, and technically Darby but only because of Sting.

Darby unironically doesn't need that many wins, he's over as an underdog, and underdogs stop being underdogs if they win most of their big matches. (I think next year he's gonna get a lot more once Sting is retired)
