Multiple sides to every story. Debra was apparently considered a shallow gold digger by a lot of the boys in the locker room and Jeanie Clark said Debra kept Stone Cold away from seeing his brit kids. Austin was loaded up on a lot of pills/painkillers at the time and his drinking was getting out of hand as a way to cope and he probably had enough of Debra one too many times and snapped.

It doesn't help that she sensationalized some of it when the Benoit incident happen. This is a man she says treated her like dirt, then she goes back and says there were good times and bad times and that she's on 'good terms' with Steve.
