They weren’t advertised to be in matches. It’s that simple. If the main event had been advertised as Cena vs Undertaker vs Cody vs LA Knight the show would have pulled attitude era numbers, but instead it was advertised as “Cena’s going to be in this guy’s corner and Taker might show up.” All the wrestling was advertised to be developmental guys and they still blew the tranny fed out of the fucking water.

There are plenty of times a star is announced to be on the show without having a match and it draws because the spectacle is supposed to be in the talent involved and appearing in an angle or having a promo.
The names failed to draw in this instance and these are huge names. NXT beat the tranny fed but in exchange exposed that there is no real star power in WWE anymore, just brand loyalty and a larger nostalgic habitual viewerbase.

The fact is Cena AND Taker could not draw. Some of the bigger stars of today could not draw.

NXT is still and will always be perceived as the developmental show. Some legends and a Hollywood guy coming in to put over the development talent isn't going to make millions want to tune in. People knew exactly why those guys were even showing up in the first place. Had they advertised a match between say Cena and Undertaker absolutely they would have then drew over a million.

The real story here is how come AEW cannot even beat the developmental brand of their main competitor. That really does not look good at all for the supposed number 2 wrestling company in the world that they can't even beat developmental. Imagine if a baseball league tried coming up and it can't even beat the minor leagues in ratings? There is a large powergap between WWE and AEW and this is taking into account a very weakened WWE ratings wise compared to past years.

Imagine how fat and lonely you have to be to watch live wrestling 3 nights a week. People with lives will stream it or have it on their dvr. Dynamite's AEW's A show lost to WWE's C show. Second, AEW has a much better excuse that it wasn't on its normal timeslot. Hell, I don't think they would have won even if Cena and Taker didn't appear by virtue that most people wouldn't even know Dynamite was on yesterday. Nobody fucking browses twitter to check on Tony's ramblings
