AEW could have never surpassed WWE, AEW's products has always being second rate, not necessarily because of the roster but because of how they presented themselves, you can't pretend to be a more prestigious company when you are putting "wrestlers" like Orange Cassidy in a top spot and focus on comedy and flippy shit. And of course WWE is way too relevant on a global scale to ever be surpassed, at best a foreign company (like it happened with NJPW) might overtake it in popularity in a foreign country but in the US they will always be number one.
