AAA had a relationship with AEW because Cody did shows there when he was on his indie run. When Cody put together All In he used AAA talent. When AEW started, this relationship carried forward.
Tony initially got mad with Konnan that he criticized AEW on his podcast, Konnan mentioned Tony bringing it up.
After that, Dragon Lee chose WWE, and AAA had FTR lose to Dragon Lee in his last match before leaving, which was the head of AAA's call. Konnan also did the WWE HoF and had Rey Mysterio do a video for their anniversary, which HHH approved. From there AEW talent were taken off AAA shows last minute, citing schedule conflicts. Konnan went to an AEW show to smooth things over and thought things were okay but Tony never got over that and is now switching to CMLL and not letting talent go to AAA.
